Canadian tennis player Frank Dancevic knocked off Philip Kohlschreiber Wednesday in the opening round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla.

Dancevic prevailed over the 36th-ranked German 6-4, 7-6 (2). Dancevic, of Niagara Falls, Ont., is currently ranked 117th in the world.

Dancevic is facing a tough next match, against third seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia. He lost to Djokovic by scores of 6-4, 6-4 at the Rogers Cup in Toronto last summer, the only previous meeting between the pair.

Other notable men advancing on Wednesday included Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland.

Former Australian Open finalist Arnaud Clement of France was eliminated by American qualifier Robby Kendrick.

No. 1 men's player Rafael Nadal, fresh off a win in Indian Wells, Calif., will be in action later in the week, as will top competitors Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick.

The women's tournament in Key Biscayne will also heat up beginning Thursday as the likes of sisters Serena and Venus Williams of the United States and Serbians Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic will begin play.

*sigh* But he can't maintain a good run. I'm starting to lose hope for the boy! I just wish I had more news on him. All I get are an article or two when he beats someone major, and that's very rare.
