Montreal Gazette: Dancevic bows to Gasquet

From Stephanie:

6-3 6-4 6-4

This was a stylish match of the highest order. And the crowd jammed into Court 8 and really got into it.

But Gasquet was the player we saw at his very best - fully engaged and hitting deep, heavy groundstrokes.

Here are some highlights of the affair. It really was tremendous (and we're not just saying that because a Canadian was involved).

We'd forgotten how good Dancevic is. Truly; the guy glides across the court as though it's absolutely nothing, so light on his feet even though he's not a small guy. He threw the kitchen sink at Gasquet by the end. But he said the slow, heavy conditions played against him - especially on serve. He just couldn't fire aces (he had only two), and Gasquet was getting a hit on every single one of them.

Some interesting observations from Canadian Frank Dancevic after his loss to an inspired and fired-up Richard Gasquet Monday.

Video taken after he qualified for the Australian Open, and video highlights after he posted a third consecutive impressive win in the Australian Open qualifying Sunday, beating American Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-4, 7-5 to reach the main draw.
