Review: The Black Prism

The Black Prism (Lightbringer, #1)The Black Prism by Brent Weeks

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I've heard great things about Brent Weeks and his books, so I picked up this particular book with high hopes. I wasn't disappointed in his writing at all...I found The Black Prism interesting and imaginative, and I really like the premise of using colour as a basis for magic. The few things that I am ruminating on now, are: that the use of colour may not actually have any historical basis at all (i.e., I am very interested in chakras and the colours DO actually correspond with emotions and other states...very cool--look it up), and I do not feel any real emotional link to the characters...so I don't think I want to continue on with the series.

That being said I do think The Black Prism is well-written, and if you love this genre you should definitely consider picking it up.

My son would love this! he loves reading about magic.

I read a book a long time ago in high school (and can't seem to find it at all anymore) that mentioned when practicing magic each person has their own personal color. I really wish I could find it.

Was it The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett? (It came up on a G00gle search.)

No, it wasn't supposed to be fiction, it had a necro word in the title but is not the fictional Necronomicon...it was something else and it was a friends. I just remember reading about the protection spells and such... I get so frustrated at the holes in my memory.

I've been wracking my brain trying to find the website that compares authors with their names floating around. Apparently I did not save it to my delicious bookmarks. :(

Have you come across this fantastic site?

[Edit] I found it!!!!!
